Hammer update for Google Maps: New feature completely changes route planning

Google started rolling out the 3D view “Immersive View” a few months ago . As the group announced on Twitter , this function is now being expanded to include an important detail.

So far, users have been able to use the feature to take a closer look at larger cities in 3D, for example. This is especially useful if you are planning a trip and want to get an idea of the cities in advance.

The 3D view is now also being rolled out for route planning. So you can check the aerial photos of the streets created by AI calculations before planning a trip.

Previously, Street View users were only able to view 2D photos of routes. With the new Immersive View function, Google is now taking route planning to a whole new level.

Also practical: With the extension of the immersive view, users can also obtain information about traffic, air quality and the weather in advance – regardless of whether they are traveling by car, bicycle or on foot.

According to Google, the rollout of the new feature will start this summer and should be available in 15 cities by the end of the year. It is not yet known what these are and whether German cities such as Berlin or Munich are also involved.
